CAMP EKTA

TGU’S Camp EKTA is a one of a kind educational experience where students from around the world have an opportunity to learn about American Culture as well as learn about themselves. The format of the program consists of a blend of traditional camp, cross cultural immersion, and sight-seeing over a highly structured two-week period.

Camp EKTA is held annually in late August, and based at the 4-H Educational Center, located in Front Royal, Virginia.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Traditional Camp

  • ESL Classes (Public Speaking, Leadership, Creative Writing)
  • Swimming, Basketball, Soccer, & Baseball
  • Canoeing, Fishing, & Art Projects
  • Dorm Style Living & Dining Hall Meals
  • Camp Fires & Evening Cultural Programs

Cultural Immersion Component

  • American Culture Workshops (Safety, Environment, American Education)
  • Interactive Weekend with American Youth (Boy & Girl Scouts – 4H Youth)
  • Establish friendships with students from across the globe
  • Hands on Learning with Police, Fire, and Rescue Equipment and Teams

Travel Component

  • Washington DC Tour (White House, Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Museums)
  • Interactive Weekend with American Youth (Boy & Girl Scouts – 4H Youth)
  • Establish friendships with students from across the globe
  • Hands on Learning with Police, Fire, and Rescue Equipment and Teams
LOCATION

Camp EKTA is based at a 230 acre 4-H Educational Center at the foothills of the Shenandoah National Park. The camp includes a swimming pool, campfire circle, fishing pond, basketball court, dining hall, outdoor amphitheater, and classrooms. Participants reside in lodges with bunk style accommodations.
