President's Message
Dear Friends,

Welcome to TGU! It is the goal of Taj Global Understanding to serve as a platform to create life experiences which plant the seeds of understanding in participants, which will grow and multiply. Over time these experiences strengthen to build pillars of peace and unity, despite our outward differences.

As an American, I welcome you to my country! The United States is a large and diverse melting pot built by citizens from all across the globe. As with any exchange program, the reality on the ground often differs from the perception abroad. Many American’s, for a number of reasons, have not had the opportunity to travel abroad and to participate in programs such as you are. Therefore, your participation in these programs provide an invaluable link with the world outside of the United States, to other cultures, other ways of life, and other ways of thinking. I have been fortunate and blessed to travel the world, and it is those experiences that have helped to shape a personal worldview, which is diverse, tolerant, and most important understanding.

I would also like to say thank you to my friends and extended family in India, a country, which has played an important role in my life for over 20 years. India is a nation which certainly marches to the beat of a different drummer. However, it is also an emerging economy, emerging market, and the largest democracy in the world, a nation that has the potential to make important contributions on the world stage.

Much of the conflict in the world today and many of the negative perceptions we have toward those who are different could be resolved through taking the time and effort to learn more about each other. Travel and exploration does not change our identity. My roots are, and will always be, in the great Commonwealth of Virginia. Growing up in a small town, my perception of my own country, as grand and diverse as it is, was very limited to one tiny dot on the map. Those perceptions; however, have changed as I have expanded my horizons over the years by visiting and/or working in 48 of the 50 United States, and 15 countries throughout the world! A list that continues to grow!

I encourage everyone, despite individual limitations, challenges, and fears, to utilize the wonderful gift of ‘life’ to step out of your comfort zone and interact with the world. Do not let ‘travel advisories’; foreign policy agendas; or Hollywood films, alone, form your world opinion. Get your passport and see the world!

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to learn more about Taj Global Understanding! We look forward to welcoming you to our family.

In Peace,

Brad Baldwin,

“ Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” -Mark Twain
“ Working in the U.S. was a dream come true. Got to learn how to earn money and how to be independent. ”
